BLYTH HARBOUR
You better get used to seeing this because I almost live here, in reality as well as mind, In reality from my
bathroom window I can see the Alcan unloading depot and the huge Port of Blyth storage sheds and every day on
my way to work I always drive along the harbour front and remember the huge staithes standing there and the
steam tugs berthed on tugboat quay and Cresswell working the river and on many occasions the colliers would be
berthed three deep under the shadow of the staithes. Any of the errr more mature Gents of Blyth will no doubt
remember the smell of the smoke and the steam and the squealing of the wheels of the coal trucks fifty feet
above your head. Ive sorted out a few photos of the harbour as it was back in the day and I must admit I
preferred it as it was then and as a kid would watch the two huge power station chimneys of the new plant
rising ever so slowly daily as we sprogs enjoyed the school summer holidays. So have a squint at some of
these pics and see if they jangle a memory or two
