Memories 10

Although this has nothing to do with Blyth or my memories, well I suppose it is a memory but its only a few weeks old hahaha, anyway I'm going to put it in. Since I reached the dreaded "60" back in April we decided to have a couple of little hols around the country to celebrate, our most recent found us in Holmfirth where they made Last of the Summer Wine and honestly what a gorgeous place it is. Mind you, you couldnt get moved for yellow bikes for the Tour de France started the week after we were there, anyway we stayed in what had been a stone barn converted into cottages and I can honestly say it is the nicest place I've ever stayed. The owners Mr and Mrs Armitage lived next door and were always at hand but in no way "stuck their noses in" if you wanted milk just help yourself from the refrigeration unit in the barn opposite and tally up at the end of the week. Eggs, yes eggs, they came from their own hens that wandered around the farm and they had the sunniest yolks I have seen since I was a kid and Granda kept hens, these were absolutely divine, so the there you go with the accommodation now for the town, its a lot bigger than it looks on the programme with Foggy Compo and Cleggy but its lovely when you turn a corner and see a place from the programme that you remember like the bridge Compo was always falling off, mind you he wouldnt have fell of it in real life beecause it's about 15ft down into the stream! and of course I had to have a photo of me standing on Nora's steps where she so often wielded that broom!! downstairs is obviously Compos house which is now a museum to Last of the Summer Wine and well worth a look as it is packed with all the stunt props they used including the famous one man submarine that Compo suprised Howard and Marina with on the stream. Sadly as we know Bill Owen who played Compo passed away and believe it or not he is buried in the parish graveyard in Holmfirth by his choice because he said he loved the place. Around the area there are so many lovely places to see and things to do we never had a day spare we were out and about continually and so we have decided we are going to sweetheart the Armitages and ask them if we can have the cottage again next year

LATEST UPDATE
We sweethearted the Armitages and they are delighted we are going back woohoo can't wait for June
