Memories 13

To start with I dont believe in unlucky numbers so I'm using No 13!!, so here we are at my Memories 13, goodness
doesn't time fly when you're having fun, now lets see, where we going now, hahaha I know one I havn't told you. Must
have been almost twenty years ago now my eldest daughter was about twelve and decided she wanted a bike, so me being
the dutiful Dad trundled her off to Two Wheel City yes the bike shop and she emerged with this pink bike and soon she
was wobbling everywhere on it. Then came the dreaded day when she announced "Daddy you're taking me on a bike ride,
OH NO!!!!!!! She had it all planned down to the last detail, the route , the distance and everything. So on the
fateful day I got my back pack and made up my lunch box with Laura declaring she didn't want anything she wouldnt be
hungry so I shrugged my shoulders and carried on making mine even including a little bottle of beer to "wet my
whistle" Well off we trot and was quite pleasant in the morning sun but you may have heard the saying "four seasons in
one day" well mid morning the antics started half way up Laverock Hall Road up sprung a stiff breeze in our faces, of
course it coudnt be seen that poor oooollddd Dad was getting tired so to keep face I almost killed myself peddling up
the hill against the wind but after about an hour the wind abated much to my delight but soon the anguish returned in
the form of black clouds rolling in from the sea, I knew it would be a hard struggle to get to shelter as we were
halfway down the Avenue so we detoured in the wrong direction for I knew there was a bush shelter at Seaton Sluice
harbour. We were a mere two hundred yards from it when the Heavens opened and with one mad dash we were safe. Well I
thought since it was just after midday to call lunch break so there I was munching happily on sausage rolls and such
with my daughter next to me on the bench looking on in envy "Dad as there anything spare in there" she piped up, "no
sorry sugar I just put my own in" I replied but I couldnt stand it any moore and opened the bag to show the horde of
goodies fit for a twleve year old, of course I had packed her lunch. after the bountiful picnic in the bus shelter I
decided to make the long journey back along the coast to Blyth but yet again halfway along the heavens opened once
more but this time was bloody snow!! we dived into the farm and hid in the open sided barn watching the snow bleaching
down, when it finally stopped we made one mad dash for home and got there just as the rain started, my girl vanished
into the bath to get her makeup sorted and the hair done teeheeheee and funny thing is she asks me to do a lot for her
even to this day but she never asked again to go on a bike ride hahaha
